Recess isn't just for the little ones here at SMS! Students from pre-k to grade 8 enjoy time outside each day if weather permits on our beautiful campus, to be physically active and engaged with their peers in activities of their choice.
Recess benefits students by:
• Increasing their level of physical activity.
• Improving their memory, attention, and concentration.
• Helping them stay on-task.
• Reducing disruptive behavior.
• Improving their social and emotional development (e.g., learning how to share and negotiate).

Today is the feast day of St. Jerome, and our Faith Family of the same name led us in the liturgy at school Mass a few weeks ago. Click here to see our students participating at Mass: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/mgrcL42YAQTRxbDK/
St. Jerome was born to Catholic parents who taught him about Jesus. When he was older, Jerome lost his love for Jesus. Once he again found his faith, he was so afraid that he would fall back into his old ways that he moved away from his family and friends. Saint Jerome is reputed to have removed a thorn from a lion’s paw while living as a hermit in the desert. He was known for having a bad temper but worked hard at controlling himself. He was the first to translate the Bible from Hebrew to Latin.
Feast Day: Sept. 30
Symbol: Lion

Yesterday was the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul, and our Faith Family of the same name led us in the liturgy at school Mass. Click here to see our students participating at Mass: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/R7RLwJju9DkjDYnG/
St. Vincent was born in France, the son of a farmer. He studied and became a priest. He was captured by pirates but survived two years as a slave, then escaped. He established organizations of men and women to provide aid to the poor and sick. He depended on the donations of the wealthy, who made it possible for him to found hospitals and an orphanage. He founded the Sisters of Charity, the first congregation of women to care for the sick and poor outside of the convent.
Feast Day: Sept.27
Symbol: the fish, a symbol of Christianity
