The First Friday and Saturday of each month a very special at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church & Diocesan Shrine.
All are welcome to join us this Friday, August 1, for our First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Mass is at 8:00 AM, followed by the Rosary, and Eucharistic Adoration until 4 PM. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647–1690) was a French Visitation nun and mystic chosen by Jesus to reveal the devotion to His Sacred Heart. Through His apparitions to her, Jesus requested the faithful to take Communion on the First Fridays for nine consecutive months.
This printable brochure provides more information on the messages and promises that Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque about the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
On Saturday, August 2, four new Relics of the Saints will be on display for veneration after 8 AM Mass. This month we will feature:
St. Dominic Guzman, Priest (feast day August 8) - established the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans
St. Clare of Assisi, Virgin (feast day August 11) - established the Poor Ladies of San Damiano, emulating Franciscan values; after her death they became known as the Poor Clares
St. Monica (feast day August 27) - mother of St. Augustine who prayed incessantly for her son's conversion
St. Augustine (feast day August 28 )- after leading a life of sin for years, he was transformed by God's Grace. His life can be summed up in one of his most famous quotes, “Our hearts were made for You, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in you.”
